The representatives of Osun State at the Nigerian Youth Parliament paid an advocacy visit on Wednesday, November 18th, 2009, to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at his office in Osogbo. They were supported by the Central Planning Committee members on the forthcoming First Osun State Youth Town Hall Meeting.
In his speech, the leader of the entourage, Hon. Isiaka Olamilekan Popoola, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, gave kudos to the Gov. Oyinlola on his youth – related programmes such as Osun State Trade Mission Summit, mechanised agricultural training of some youths in Shongai Farm Settlement in Republic of Benin and development of Free Trade Zone. As he said: “All these will have positive effects on the lives of Osun State people, residents and importantly, the Osun State youths.”
Hon. Popoola enumerated the achievements of the Osun State representatives to include advocacy visits to the media houses, Local Government Councils in Osun State, Osun State House of Assembly, prominent stakeholders in the state, inauguration of the Central Planning Committee on the forthcoming Osun State Youth Town Hall Meeting and partnership with government Ministries, Directorates and Agencies towards achieving sustainable national development.
In his response, Gov. Oyinlola thanked the delegation for their visit and appreciated their concerns towards using their energies positively. He implored the youths to shun violence and all forms of social vices. He also commended the efforts of the Youth parliament on the attainment of amnesty for the Niger – Delta militants, their resolutions on the reformation of Almajiri system of education and a host of others. He promised to look into their prayers brought before him as regards their challenges.
Also in attendance was Hon. Tinuola Awosemo, representing Osun East Senatorial District.
